The team at Ostrosky Cosmetic and Family Dentistry Services is committed to providing comprehensive dental care to individuals and families. Here are some of the many areas the dental professionals handle
Oral hygiene care:
A strong oral care routine helps to determine the long-term health of your teeth and gums; it also contributes to the overall appearance of your smile. Those who pay careful attention to their mouth regularly tend to have whiter, more appealing looking teeth than those who frequently skip visits to their dentist and forget to brush and floss.
While regular visits to a dental professional are essential when it comes to maintaining healthy teeth and gums, each patient must work to keep their mouth healthy in between these trips. These are some of the steps necessary that Dr. Keith Ostrosky recommends for proper at-home oral care:
- Floss daily and brush thoroughly at least twice a day
- Eat a diet full of fruits and vegetables, and limit your intake of sugary and starchy foods
- Brush with a toothpaste that contains fluoride, also consider using a mouthwash that contains fluoride
- Replace your toothbrush every three to four months or whenever it appears worn
Indicators of good oral hygiene include:
- Teeth are free of food particles
- Gums don’t hurt or bleed when you floss or brush
- Gums are a healthy pink color
- You don’t have constant bad breath
Problems with halitosis
Halitosis is a more complicated term for bad breath. While many people experience unpleasant mouth odors when they wake up in the morning, constant bad breath can indicate a more serious health concern. In many instance, bacteria is the cause of bad breath. Because the mouth is warm and moist, it makes it easy for millions of bacteria to thrive inside. Roughly 80 percent of bad breath is attributed to bacteria. Other causes of bad breath include:
- Leftover food in between teeth
- Infections in the mouth such as gum disease
- Throat infections, lung infections, and sinus infections
- Eating or drinking potent foods such as coffee, onions, or garlic, or smoking cigarettes
- Dry mouth due to salivary gland issues
- Other illnesses like liver disease, diabetes, kidney disease, lung disease, reflux disease, or sinus disease
Those who routinely experience an unpleasant taste in their mouth should consult with Dr. Keith Ostroskyor another dental professional.
Sealants
Dr. Keith Ostroskyand other dentists use sealants to fill in spaces in teeth that are unable to get cleaned thoroughly by a toothbrush. Sometimes the tooth has small pits that attract plaque because even a tiny bristle of a toothbrush is too large to fit into them. Even the most dedicated brushing routine won’t clean these microscopic spaces. To protect these areas from decay, a dental professional with put on a coating that seals over the pits, making it possible for a patient to thoroughly brush the area and keep it healthy.
Bonding
This process is when a dentist adheres a composite resin material that matches the tooth’s natural color to the front of the tooth’s surface. This works to alter the alignment of the tooth, close gaps between the teeth, or fix damage done to the teeth due to injury or other occurrences. In order for the process to work, first the dental professional must roughen the surface of the tooth to get the bonding to adhere properly. Next, he or she applies a light gel to that the resin has something to stick to. They then place the composite on the tooth, and then the bonding agent is hardened with the use of an intense light. After that, the bonding is shaped and polished to ensure that it looks natural when mixed in with the other teeth.
